The Town
Founded in
1640, Greenwich is located a short 29 miles from Manhattan and
directly over the New York/Connecticut border. Though very close to
Manhattan one enjoys the effects of a sophisticated country setting
with all the advantages of a big city. The population of Greenwich
exceeds 60,000 residents. The town encompasses over 48 square miles
and consists of several small villages, Greenwich proper, Old
Greenwich, Riverside, Cos Cob and Glenville. These villages have their
own shopping areas, schools and most have train stations. the
average home sale price in Greenwich is just under 2 million dollars,
homes range from the 500 thousand dollar range to excess of 26
million dollars.
The school
system consists of both public and private schools. The public
schools in Greenwich are consistently ranked amount the best in the
entire country with 90% of its students attending college. The
private schools are among the country's finest and can be very
difficult to get into and the waiting list may be long.
There are
numerous private clubs in Greenwich where the waiting list to join
can be very long and excellent sponsorship is a must. Greenwich
Avenue is a shopper's delight with major stores such as Saks Fifth
Avenue, Gap, Tiffany's, Baccarat, Talbot's, J Crew, Banana Republic,
Restoration Hardware, Victoria Secret as well as a host of small
boutiques. Restaurants are another key draw for Greenwich, many can
be found on Greenwich Avenue as well, these dining spots will suite
every appetite and budget.
